French-Tunisian-Moroccan entrepreneur Rym Yessad, founder of Curl Shop, walked us through her top tips for maintaining luscious curly locks.
Tips for a hydrating curly hair routine
-
Wet hair
To style your curls beautifully and easily, your hair has to be “soaking wet,” according to Yessad.
-
Detangling spray
Brushing curly hair is not easy. You have to be very gentle to avoid breakage. Yessad advises to use a detangling spray to help comb your hair easily.
-
Cream
Cream or leave-in conditioners moisturize the hair, which is exactly what curly hair needs to avoid frizz and to keep your hair looking hydrated, shiny and healthy, according to Yessad.
-
Styling
Brush your hair in small sections after applying cream to let the curls form. You can also finger coil the hair for more defined waves.
-
Gel
Yessad says gel gives definition and volume to the hair. You do not need to apply it on your entire hair, just the ends to keep the curls looking fresh. Scrunch the ends of the hair to add volume.
-
Air dry or diffuse
During winter, it is best to use a diffuser as it may take time for your hair to dry in cold air. Air drying and diffusing both give the same effect, according to Yessad.
